Caminito del Rey White Village: Álora or Ardales
Which white village the Caminito del Rey tours visit: Álora with a guide, its museum and a tapas lunch, or a free-time stop in Ardales (Oct 2026).
The white village on the Caminito del Rey and white village tour is Álora: about two hours with a guide through its archaeological museum, the Church of La Encarnación and the old centre, then a tapas lunch there before the walk. Most other day trips from Málaga stop in Ardales instead, a smaller village near the Caminito’s north entrance, for 30 to 60 minutes of free time and breakfast, with no guide. If the village is part of why you are going, Álora is the one with a programme; Áloratur’s tour is rated 4.9 from 3,562 reviews and from US$73 a person in current promotion (usually US$80) (checked October 2026).

Álora
Álora is a town of white houses on the slope of Monte Hacho above the Guadalhorce valley, among orange and lemon groves, with an Arab castle on the Cerro de las Torres about 100 metres above the river; the castle was declared a national monument in 1931, and its Capilla del Nazareno was the main mosque in the Arab period (the town council of Álora). The municipal museum, the Museo Rafael Lería, is in the Escuela de Cristo, a 16th-century Mudéjar building on the Plaza Baja de la Despedía; it costs €2 on your own, and since 23 September 2026 the museum takes cards only (the town council, read in October 2026). On the tour the museum visit is included.
The tour’s walk through Álora takes in the museum, the Church of La Encarnación, the Mirador de Pepe Rosas and the old centre. Guests also mention the castle and its view over the valley, and a steep climb: one guest who walked up and down the village found it a lot before the Caminito itself. Wear the same shoes you will walk the gorge in.

Ardales
Ardales is the village on the A-357 side of the Caminito, a few kilometres from the Visitors’ Reception Centre, and most Málaga and Costa del Sol day trips stop there for 30 to 60 minutes on the way in: a breakfast, a coffee, or a walk round the streets. On LegacyTravel's day trip the stop is about 50 minutes and is billed as the white village part of the day. It is free time, not a visit: one guest found most of Ardales still closed early in the morning, and two on 6 September 2026 wrote that the stop was skipped that day and they were told on the coach.

If you have a car
Álora is on the way to El Chorro, where the walk ends, so a driver can see the town in the morning and park for the Caminito later. The Caminito del Rey’s own site says to arrive at the north entrance 30 minutes before your ticket’s time and that the gate is a 25-minute walk from the El Kiosko restaurant by the shortest path; tickets or a guided tour covers the shuttle bus and parking.
Álora’s castle, museum, hours and prices from the town council of Álora; the arrival rules from the Caminito del Rey’s official site; tour stops and inclusions from the GetYourGuide listings and guests’ comments from the newest 350 reviews of tour 537216 and all 160 of tour 1211244; all read on 30 October 2026.
